About Grouchy Mule
Inquiring minds want to know... how we came up with the name???

Once back at our farm we had an amazing veterinarian come out to put leg casts on this little guy's front legs!

Let us introduce you to Zane, aka Grouchy Mule… the inspiration behind our brand!
Zane was a rescue at 1-1/2 weeks old when I was visiting a farm in Orlando, FL with a friend!
He caught my eyes with his beauty when he was lying down in the pasture!
Watching him struggle to get up on his feet, then trying to stand up straight next to his mama was heartbreaking! He was born walking on his front ankles with his hooves bent back behind him! He gave everything he could to catch up with his mama in hope's of not being “picked on” by the rest of the herd! When I asked the owner about him he said he was going to have him put down! After what had seemed to be the longest drive back home, not to mention getting very little sleep that night, I spoke to the owner about bringing this mule colt
up our way to have casts put on! I called my friend & we drove down that next day to load up Zane & his Paint/QH mama (only temporary, until he was weaned) … yes,
even after my husband said we didn't need anymore mouths to feed! Sorry babe... 😔 but thank you for always supporting my crazy ideas 💗
I remember when Zane finally woke up from his anesthesia after his casts were put on...
he realized his legs/hooves were actually straight & he "could run (walk really fast)"
& kick up with his hind end for the very first time! 🤩🐎💗
It was such an incredible sight to see, God's grace & graciousness (the meaning behind Zane's name) ...
God is gracious! 🙏

After two sets of casts over the next few months period,
Zane's legs straightened out completely...
& then he started to grow... 😉

Throughout the years Zane has always had a little bit of a "grouchy" attitude here & there...

Fast forward to today... Zane, now 11 years young, 16 hands tall, sitting/posing for the camera every chance he gets for Grouchy Mule Coffee... helping to contribute to his daily "hay fund"! 🤣 He was even painted by a local artist 🤩
